The massive amounts of money spent on bids to hold commonwealth games in Srilanka ( now down the drain) would have saved probably double the amount of schools in my country!

There is a practical issue in this problem. There are lot of schools where number of pupils are less than 50. But, still government has to allocate certain amount of teachers for those schools. May be subject wise and Class wise. When look at the Teacher :Pupil ratio it may be 1:5. But if we take prominent school even that ratio is 1:25 or even more. What government is trying to do is put these students to closer schools and then pupils get better facilities and Teacher also get proper dividence in work as well. True, that some children might have some inconvenience. But we should look and the bigger picture.

I can't remember the place, but there is a school there is only one pupil and one teacher. In those cases it's no point to avail one school for one child. There are so many cases like this.

The Bottom Line is that there is no proper administration, if a school is closed for a proper reason the administrators must make sure the pupils from that school be able to join a close by school without any troube and it should be followed by proper transportation every morning and after school. Hope this will be rectified.

If government wants to cut down expenditure, it has to take immediate actions on COPE report, reduce wasting money including worthless Mihinlanka, and should stop offering car permits to ministers and other government ranks. Shutting down a school to save state funds, is absolute nonsense.. Instead, those schools must be developed and be facilitated with necessary infrastructure, to serve the students in the village. Remember, big schools are already running short of space, and principles are taking illegal bribes in taking new students.
