Interim coach Nic Pothas who was critical of team selection following Sunday’s heavy defeat in the first ODI against India said that he was happy with the situation of the team.
Pothas blamed the presence of too many brains in the think-tank as one of the reasons for Sri Lanka’s failure and wanted a free-hand in the selection of final XI.
“You can’t fault anyone within that changing room. Yes, we didn’t play our best cricket today. That’s pretty obvious. You do get angry. To say ‘too many cooks’ is probably accurate,” said Pothas on Sunday.
Making a special statement before the pre-match press conference ahead of Thursday’s second ODI he said the team is very much focused on their roles.
Excerpts of his statement.
We are in good shape at the moment, a couple of very good training days boys are in very good spirits. We are very much focused on the process of policies and procedures in place which would stand us in good stead into the future that future will take time we certainly can’t wave any magic wands around. We are in a position at the moment that England, India Australia all have found themselves in.
We have learnt from them and spoken to them. We are very confident about how we are going about our work. As of tomorrow we just keep on fighting. It should be stated that I am very happy with everything that’s going on within our four walls in that change room and just to clarify things I am very happy with the situation with the board that has been hugely supportive of everything that I do and the players do and they continue to support us. Certainly, I have no issues there.
