(Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka's top order batter Pathum Nissanka has become father for the first time, it is learned.

Essa Kumarasinghe, the wife of the 26-year-old right-hand batter, gave birth to a baby boy on Monday.

According to the well-placed sources in Kandy, the new father took special permission from the team management to leave the hotel and travel to Colombo to get a glimpse of his "new arrival" in the family and returned to the team hotel in the evening.

The team members congratulated him and wished him fatherhood.
