A quick fire 53 ball unbeaten knock of 68 inclusive of six boundaries and a six by skipper Ahan Wickramasinghe, supported by half tons from Navod Paranavithana and Mohamed Shamaaz and a four wicket haul by Ashian Daniel paved the way for Sri Lanka Emerging XI to record a convincing 99 run win on D/L method over Bangladesh Emerging XI in the first of the three match ODI series played at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium today.
Sri Lanka Emerging XI’s win came on the back of three fruitful partnerships after they lost the first wicket in the first over before before making any score.
Shamaaz and Paranavithana was involved in two partnerships each with Shamaaz who made 58 with eight boundaries putting on 60 runs for the second wicket with Pavan Ratnayake and then shared a 53 runs for the third wicket with Paranavithana who hit 66 with seven boundaries and two sixes and he put on the best stand of the innings that of 75 runs for the fourth wicket with skipper Wickramasinghe to help them make a modest score of 245 for 8.
Bangladesh Emerging XI In their run chase fell into deep trouble as they succumbed to bowling trio Ashian Daniel, Eshan Malinga and Vijayakanth Viyaskanth as they lost their top five wickets with just 45 runs on the board in the 12th over.
Despite Abdullah Al Mamum who made a top score of 64 making stiff resistance he was forced to watch losing his partners at the other end as the bowling trio who together shared nine wickets between them succeeded to bowl the visitors out for 152 runs to help Sri Lanka Emerging XI to go one up.
The two teams will play their second ODI on October 19 at the same venue. (M. Shamil Amit)
