A special programme lending a much-needed helping hand to flood-affected staff members of Lanka Hospitals has been initiated by Chairman Dr. Sarath Paranavitane and board member Dr. Rohan Wijesundera with immediate effect.
Staff members who are displaced, directly affected and who are in need of immediate medical and material attention will be assisted through a relief programme under three phases. Lanka Hospitals flood relief teams including doctors and fortified with dry rations, medicine, essential grocery and sanitary items were deployed to Panchikawatte, Grand Pass, Cotta Road, Gothatuwa, Kelaniya, Kaduwela, Habarakada, Kesbewa, Angoda, Mulleriyawa and the Galwana Temple in the first phase.
“During this first stage, while distributing essential food, grocery and household items, we will gather information to ascertain further relief efforts to our staff members. The second phase of flood relief will be carried out based on this information in the near future in a bid to stabilize their normal living conditions. Cooked food, temporary shelter, sanitation and specific medical needs of these individuals will be looked in to in the second phase,” stated Dr. Paranavitane.
Speaking about the third phase of the flood relief effort to the Lanka Hospitals employees, Dr. Rohan Wijesundera stated that measures will be deliberated on reconstructing damaged houses, releasing funds for the restoration of other assets and other long-term rehabilitation processes to stabilize life of LH staff members.
Approximately 50 staff members of Lanka Hospitals are affected by the inclement weather prevailing in the country at present.
