SolTrim International (Pvt) Ltd, a leading Sri Lankan apparel brand identification and packaging products provider, marked World Environment Day (June 5th) by embarking on a sustainability programme that aims to measure, manage and mitigate their environmental footprint.
The company revealed that they have joined hands with the country’s foremost providers of Integrated Sustainability Solutions and Certifications – The Carbon Consulting Company (CCC) and The Sustainable Future Group (SFG), to achieve these ambitious goals.
The programme is based on three areas that were identified by CCC experts as important for SolTrim International to focus their efforts on towards reducing their environmental impact. Subsequent to comprehensive assessments conducted by CCC, the company was awarded CarbonConscious® andWasteConscious® certifications by SFG, and their organisational Water Footprint Inventory was also verified by the same. As a requirement of these certifications, the company has introduced a Sustainability Team tasked with the responsibility of monitoring and mitigating its Carbon, Waste and Water Footprints through comprehensive management plans.
The certifications belong to a proprietary range of environmental sustainability certifications developed by SFG following international standards and protocols for the measurement, management and mitigation/enhancement of key environmental sustainability areas such as Carbon, Water, Waste and Biodiversity.
Lakmini Senadheera, Manager Sustainability Assurance and Advisory Services at SFG who was present at the certificate handover ceremony said, “We are pleased to announce that SolTrim International has satisfied the necessary criteria and as such are awarded both Carbon and WasteConscious certifications. We further confirm that their Water Footprint Inventory is an accurate representation of their direct and indirect water consumption and wastage. I wish to offer my heartiest congratulations to the team at SolTrim International and wish them the best in all their future endeavours.”
Suren Abeyasekera, CEO of SolTrim International, remarked, “Today marks the beginning of a new, sustainable era in our company. Even though we have always been a responsible business operation, we lacked the credentials to showcase our efforts and commitment to protecting the environment. Incorporating these sustainable business practices in our day-to-day operations will no doubt benefit our triple bottom line in the long run”.
Sanith de S Wijeyeratne, CEO of CCC, added, “We’re pleased that SolTrim International has made this commitment, which is a step companies the world over are now taking to future-proof their businesses. It’s hugely encouraging to see that companies in Sri Lanka too are realising the importance of mitigating their environmental footprints thereby aiding the preservation of our natural resources for future generations. The CCC team and I want to reassure them of our continued partnership and assistance in helping them achieve this commendable endeavor”.
