Injured Maharagama Seetha treated by specialist veterinarian



 

 

Maharagama Seetha, who was badly injured by gun shots fired by Wildlife Department officials, has been attended by the veterinarian of the Sacred Temple of Tooth Relic of Kandy.

The majestic creature, who has been taken to parade in the Mahiyangana Asela Pageant, was shot seven times on September 30th by a Civil Defence Department, attached to Wildlife Department, who had mistaken Maharagama Seetha to a wild elephant.

The Civil Defence Department officer was believed to be intoxicated when the incident occurred.

Delegates such as Ven. Uralewatte Dhammarakhitha Thero, Custodian of the Sacred Temple of Tooth Relic, Nilanga Dela, Secretary of Sri Lanka Society of Elephant Owners' Association, Dharmasiri Bandara, Custodian of Mahiyangana Sumana Samam Temple, Gayan Heenkanda vehemently condemned the act that injured Maharagama Seetha, who starred in many local movies such as Kadira Divyaraja, Dutugemunu, Weda Bari Tarzan and Gindari.
