The wreck was re discovered in 2001 off the Batticaloa coast after an extensive search. In 1967 fishermen of the region have engaged in fishing activities around the wreck. There was no GPS technology. Land marks were used locate the wreck. Guided by fishermen it was made possible to dive the wreck. The forst two divers used a protective shark cage which was lowered from their boat fearing there would be sharks.

The Photograper passedaway in 1986. According to his last wish the ashes were brought to sri Lanka to disperse on the wreck site by his son.
Due to the security situation Boating and fising activities were restricted in the eastern seas. The location of the wreck was completely lost, Final resting place was a mistry to everyone. Since 2009 wreck was diveable. Certificaation requirement is TEC 45. About 900 tec divers have dived the wreck.
