This has been yet another pre-election promise by every PE candidate. I have been patiently waiting since '94 for it to happen no one did. As constitution of UNP will never allow it to be done in parliment, unless its done outside means

Next parliament will be a hung parliament or a government by a razor thin majority. It will be like the promise to bring down prices of essentials and medicine by reducing taxes within 24 hours. The 3 NPPers in parliament are now President, prime Minister and Minister. NPP ekata hari giya apita goo giya

NPP will display vehicles, show all wrong information and now sell the abolish executive presidency card to gain 2/3. People will blindly vote. That will be it!

Why not a constitutional amendment be enacted to give the executive powers to the other two branches of governance and keep the presidency as a ceremonial one just like in India.
The governance structure in Sri Lanka does not overlap the other two branches of governance thereby rendering the executive to be more powerful.
The abolishing of the executive will be a tedious task for any new government without a two thirds majority in parliament, the other organ in the governance structure.
The Westminster system of Bi Cameral Legislature if it is mooted will be a good governance structure for the proposed system change.

CONTD PRAYERS FOR THE SECOND MIRACLE AND ANURA/NPP TO COME TO POWER WITH A MAJORITY WITH SAJITH BEING IN OPPOSITION AND ENSURE THAT ANURA'S PROMISES ARE KEPT WHICH IS ALIGNED WITH HIS/SJB Sunday, 06 October 2024 07:58 PM
ANURA WILL KEEP TO HIS PROMISES. I HOPE HE AND HIS GOVERNMENT RULE FOR THE FULL TERM AND AQBOLISH IT BEFORE HIS TERM IS UP. WHY NOT GIVE A HUMBLE MAN A CHANCE TO BE PRESIDENT AND BE ABLE TO MAKE DECISIONS TO ENSURE HE CAN KEEP THE PROMISES HE MADE WITH A MAJORITY IN GOVT, OR ELSE HOW IS HE GOING TO KEEP TO HIS PROMISES??.

He has to abide by him promise on abolishing the executive presidency and on wiping out corruption along with punishing the crooks. If he fails to do it within the 1st 5 years the 43% will again shrink back to 3%.

He is a man who keeps his word. So far he has proved that.
