The Health Ministry has identified 13 districts with high incidence of Dengue cases such as Colombo, Gampaha, Kalutara, Galle, Hambantota, Kandy, Kegalle, Trincomalee, Ratnapura, Puttalam, Polonnaruwa, Jaffna, and Batticaloa.
According to Health Secretary Dr Palitha Mahipala, the ministry is prioritizing targeted interventions in these areas to curb the spread of the disease.
“Adverse weather conditions in the island have led to a surge in dengue cases, prompting the Ministry of Health to launch comprehensive programmes aimed at bolstering prevention, control, and treatment services, Dr. Mahipala added.
Meanwhile, in a concerted effort to combat the escalating threat of dengue fever, a week-long series of special national programmes was initiated yesterday (07).
The inaugural programme kicked off in the Western Colombo District targeting the Slave Island, Wellawatta and Wijerama areas.
The Ministry of Health has declared the period from yesterday (07) to 13 January as National Dengue Prevention Week, signalling an intensified campaign against the disease throughout the country.
With yesterday marking the commencement of this national programme, authorities emphasize the need for collective action to ensure the success of the initiative and to minimize the impact of dengue fever across the nation.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka has logged 1871 Dengue cases in just six days.
