132 MPs pledge support to Govt to ensure parliamentary majority



  • Appointment of remaining Cabinet posts will hinge on response from other parties

The appointment of the remaining Cabinet ministers will hinge on the response of the political parties invited to take part in the proposed interim government, a Minister said. 

President Gotabaya Rajapaksa invited the political parties to accept portfolios in the new Cabinet. However , the parties are yet to respond officially to the president .


“The appointment of the remaining Cabinet ministers will depend on their response and outcome of talks with them ,” Leader of the House Education Minister Dinesh  Gunawardena said.


Meanwhile , the parliamentary group of the ruling side met yesterday with the president. At the meeting 132 MPs pledged support to ensure majority for the government in Parliament.


Agriculture Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage said the president assured stability .


“There is nothing to worry. We have 132 MPs with us,” he said
