16 girls sexually abused by maths tutor

A 30-year-old maths tutor wanted over sexually abusing 16 female students, had been arrested yesterday, police said.  The suspect was arrested when he surrendered to the Kalutara Division Child and Women’s Abuse Prevention Bureau to give a statement.   

Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that so far police had received three complaints against the suspect.  


The wife of the suspect had filed a complaint with the Kalutara North Police that her husband had been having extra-marital affairs, and after she checked his laptop, she discovered video footage of girls being abused by the suspect.   


Accordingly, police found 16 video recordings filmed while the suspect was sexually assaulting the girls.

   
Police said further investigations will be conducted to locate the victims in those videos. It was reported that among those who were abused by the suspect was the daughter of a female police officer in Kalutara.   


Investigations revealed that the suspect teacher had conducted private classes on the Galle Road in Kalutara North. Police said the suspect had conducted classes in small groups in other places as well. They said investigations will also be carried out to find out whether the girls in those classes had also been abused by the suspect.   
The suspect was produced before the Kalutara Magistrate’s Court.
