The health authorities still carry out 20,000-25,000 COVID-19 tests- mostly rapid antigen tests-  daily despite the drop of the number of cases, a top official said.

Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath told Daily Mirror the curve of daily Covid cases had flattened to around 700 during the last few weeks after a steep decline reported before.

The government lifted curbs on public mobility on October 1. Dr. Herath said public movements had increased since then, and it would take a couple of weeks for the health sector to observe whether there would be another spike as a result.

“It is still not the time to be complacent.  We should adhere to public and social health measures,” he said.
Sri Lanka is one among the countries that successfully carried out vaccination drives against COVID -19.
“We see a reduction of the positivity rate. Still, we cannot be satisfied,” he said.
