The barring of dual citizens from holding key posts is key among proposals made to be incorporated into the 21st Amendment, Daily Mirror learns.

The political parties held talks yesterday evening on the 21st Amendment. The JVP has not participated in the meeting. The ten-party alliance of the government has decided to make their proposals on 15 counts, and proscription of dual citizens from holding office in key positions is main among them.

The parties presented their proposals to be considered in the enactment of the 21st Amendment at yesterday’s meeting . Another meeting was fixed for next Friday to consider them. Afterwards, they will be referred to the Cabinet for approval.

The proposed constitutional amendment seeks to prune presidential powers, particularly in the appointments of members to the independent commissions. The amendment, if enacted, will provide for the establishment of the Constitutional Council once again to make appointments to such commissions.
