• Prez asks PM to contact them, find out actual stand

President Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday instructed Prime Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to contact the opposition and verify its final stand on the 22nd Amendment to the Constitution.  

The president took this step because the opposition made contradictory statements and remarks on the 22nd Amendment.   

The president has taken note that the group of MPs who joined the opposition from the government and the party led by the opposition leader have taken contrasting positions on the matter. The president has observed that the opposition has deviated from its initial position completely
