• Will take at least two weeks to repair and reinstate

It will take at least two weeks to repair and reinstate Unit One of Norochcholai power plant which has broken down, Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Acting General Manager  D. C. R Abeysekera said yesterday.   

Mr. Abeysekera said in a press release that national grid has also lost the 300Mw due to Major Overhaul of Unit 2 at Norochcholai Power plant. Accordingly the grid has lost a total of 600Mw as a result.   

‘We therefore want to inform the public of our decision to extend the power cuts up to three hours a day, he added.   
“We regret the inconvenience caused to the general public due to the situation,” he also said.
