30% of Delta variant cases found from Dematagoda, Aramaya area, Albion Road

Referring to reports that nearly 30 percent of COVID-19 cases reported in Colombo are of the Delta variant, Colombo Municipal Council’s (CMC) Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ruwan Wijayamuni speaking to media yesterday said that out of the Covid-19  cases detected in Dematagoda  Aramaya road  and Albion road areas 30 % were  found to be  infected with the Delta variant.” 

 

  • All possible measures being taken to curb the further spread of the Delta variant in Colombo 

 

“A further 15 Delta variant  cases have been  reported from the city of Colombo” Dr Wijayamuni added.  
He said they were monitoring the situation and were taking all possible measures to curb the further spread of the Delta variant in the Colombo municipality.  


“The Jayawardenepura University is currently carrying out research on the Delta variant and genetic sequencing on samples randomly obtained country-wide. We will take steps accordingly as per the results of the genetic sequencing,” he added.
