Sri Lanka yesterday recorded the highest death toll of COVID -19 with as many 31 people dying in the span of a day, according to the updates certified by the Director-General of Health Services.

With the latest fatalities, the total cases shot up to 923. 

Sri Lanka has witnessed a sharp rise of COVID-19 deaths after the third wave of the pandemic triggered by the spread of the UK variant of the virus.

The spread was exacerbated by the increased public movements during the festive season.
