4 arrested for shooting and robbery at Meegoda Economic Centre

The main suspect and three others involved in the shooting and robbery at the Meegoda Economic Centre last week have been taken into custody.   


Two of them including a businessman who aided and abetted the shooting had been arrested on Saturday (17) by Meegoda police and on information provided by them under interrogation, the gunman and the rider of the motorcycle were arrested by the STF during a raid in Tissamaharama.   


Police said the two gunmen who fled from the scene had on their way robbed a businessman in Pugoda off his jewellery and left the motorcycle at a restaurant belonging to one of the suspects.   


During investigations the police had recovered the weapon and the motorcycle used in the shooting.   


The four suspects were being questioned by Nugegoda – Mirihana Speicial Crime Investigation Unit.   


They were to be produced before the Homagama magistrate after recording their statements.   


A police team under OIC Meegoda police CI Neville Priyantha had conducted investigations and arrested the suspects.
