Some 5,400 police personnel have been assigned for the security of individuals who are not either MPs or Ministers and a report has been called in regarding the matter, Public Security Minister Tiran Alles said yesterday.

He told Parliament that steps would be taken to either remove or cut down on the number of security personnel assigned for such people after reviewing the report.

The Minister said this in response to a question raised by SJB MP Ajith Mannapperuma who asked whether there was any assessment of security provided to religious leaders, religious places and other state officials considering the shortage of police personnel for other civil duties.
