60 CCTV cameras at Kalutara prison inactive, posing security threat

Investigations into the recent death of a prison inmate at the Kalutara prison yesterday revealed that over 60 CCTV cameras installed on the premises have been inactive for the past year.  

  • Security cameras, installed across the main building, wards, women’s  cell, main entrance, and other key areas, including the restaurant, are  not functioning, hindering efforts to determine the cause of the recent  assault

The security cameras, installed across the main building, wards, women’s cell, main entrance, and other key areas, including the restaurant, are not functioning, hindering efforts to determine the cause of the recent assault.  
A senior officer at Kalutara prison disclosed that the CCTV system had been disabled for a year due to financial allocation issues, posing a significant security threat. Authorities have been informed about the situation, but a resolution has been delayed.
