• All deaths of pregnant mothers had occurred in the third wave

A total of 60 pregnant mothers and 89 children below 18 years of age have succumbed to COVID-19 to date , Family Health Bureau Director Dr. Chithramalee De Silva said yesterday.  

Addressing a news briefing at the Health Promotion Bureau, she said all deaths of pregnant mothers had occurred in the third wave.  

“Since 95 percent of pregnant mothers have received the COVID vaccine, the number of deaths has considerably gone down and so are the infections,” she said.  

Dr De Silva also requested all eligible pregnant mothers to get their booster shot as the third dose rollout is currently underway.
