90 percent of vehicles running in SL below smoke emission standards

More than 90 percent of vehicles running in Sri Lanka are not up to the proper smoke emission standards, the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Energy and Transport has revealed.  
This was revealed at the Sectoral Oversight Committee on Energy and Transport that met in Parliament yesterday.   It was also revealed at the committee that 20 percent of vehicles fail the smoke emission test annually and 90 percent of vehicles that run in Sri Lanka emit harmful smoke to the environment.  
The Committee also drafted minimum standards of importing passenger transport buses to Sri Lanka and said passenger buses should be imported in accordance with the criteria decided by the Committee.
