From last night, the All Island Canteen Owners' Association (AICOA) is to increase the price of a cup of tea by Rs.100.
The convener of the (AICOA) Asela Sampath told the Daily Mirror that the decision was made due to an increase in sugar, tea leaves, and milk powder in the market.
Therefore, he requested the hotel and canteen owners to provide a healthy cup of tea with three teaspoons of milk powder that should not exceed 200ml.
Bringing the price of a cup of tea to Rs.100 in the local market will go into the record books in Sri Lankan history.
Despite the price increase, the canteen and hotel owners should keep in mind the importance of providing a healthy cup of tea, he reiterated.
