A wild elephant that fell into an unprotected well in a Chena cultivation was saved yesterday by a team of officers from Galkiriyagama Wildlife Range Office and Vijithapura Wildlife Beat Office. Officers said the jumbo that roamed into the village from Kahalla Wildlife Sanctuary foraging for food the previous night had fallen into the well. They said it was between 22 and 25 years of age, the jumbo was released to the wildlife sanctuary. Incidentally, the World Elephant Day was yesterday.
