An Advanced Level student of a leading school in Veyangoda has been beaten with a piece of pipe by a teacher of that school causing him serious injuries. He was admitted to the Wathupitiwala District Base Hospital in a serious condition. 

 Upon inquiry the boy told police that he was ordered to kneel down and beaten him with a piece of pipe by the teacher in charge of the subject Information Technology.  Investigations revealed that the class teacher had intervened and attempted to save the student but to no avail.   

Police said the suspect teacher was a resident of Humbitiyawa area and that he had fled from the area following the incident.  A spokesman for the hospital said the boy had sustained serious injuries to his hands.   
OIC Veyangoda Police CI Channa Wettewa is conducting further investigations. He said the suspect would be arrested soon.
