• Ahamed was sworn in as the Environment Minister of the new Cabinet

Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) said yesterday it would initiate disciplinary action against its MP Nazeer Ahamed for accepting a Cabinet portfolio in the government.    

Party leader MP Rauff Hakeem told Daily Mirror that it was a breach of the party discipline, and disciplinary inquiry would be initiated against him. He said the party’s High Command would meet next Friday to discuss action against him.   

Ahamed was sworn in as the Environment Minister of the new Cabinet appointed by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. Though he is an MP of the SLMC, an opposition party, he has been used to vote in favour of the government in Parliament in the enactment of the important pieces of legislation.
