Says salary increases are possible and should be implemented immediately

Duminda Hulangamuwa was a member of Udaya Seneviratne committee which recommended a salary hike for the public servants during the previous regime, former President Ranil Wickremesinghe said yesterday.

“The decision to increase salaries for public servants was made consulting all members of Udaya Seneviratne committee. All its members approved the salary hike,” Mr. Wickremesinghe told a gathering in Pannala.

“There is a possibility of increasing salaries and it should be implemented immediately,” he added.

“Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya has said it is necessary to obtain the approval of officials for the cabinet to make a decision. It looks as if she is not aware of the constitution. I can teach her about the constitution if she wants to learn,” he also said.

Also, Mr Wickremesinghe questioned as to what has become of the NPP-led trade unions who fought for the rights of public servants during the past years.

Mr RW, when you had the chance to win an election you failed. So now we have NPP democratically elected. The people voted for them as they lost faith in the experienced lot and first we tried the inexperienced Gota and now we are trying the inexperienced NPP because there was too much waste, aggression and cockiness in you and others. So respect democracy and support the NPP government by giving more details of how Upali committee or you planned to give the salary hike. If not you are also becoming a thuttu dekay politician like how the JVP used to behave in the good old days - disrupting everything including education electricity and trade.

Salaray hike may have been approved by Cabinet with no funds allocated for the purpose. Ranil the senile only can cause such decisions to be made without money in hand

Ranil, People rejected you. So honour the peoples wishes and go home. You can come back again at the next presidential election. Also stop acting like the Know all former president. Let the new buggers rule. If they are not good - Kick them out too. Give them a chance. Who knows - they will be better than you and the previous lot.
