Sri Lanka’s relations with Africa appeared to have reached a significant new level, as evidenced by many African leaders congratulating newly elected President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Sri Lanka, as a country, took steps to enhance ties with countries in the African region. The heads of state of African states such as Kenya, Tanzania, Congo and Rwanda are among those who sent messages of congratulations to the President.

Both Sri Lanka and African countries are actively collaborating in various multilateral forums, including IORA, NAM, and the Commonwealth, and are uniquely connected through South-South cooperation. As Africa emerges as an economic powerhouse rich in natural resources, Sri Lanka’s focus and engagement on the continent have intensified.

The presence of Sri Lankan investors and the business community in Africa is rapidly growing. Furthermore, increased interactions among leaders, officials, and citizens indicate a positive trend towards meaningful relations and cooperation between Sri Lanka and various African countries.
