All party meeting in Indian Parliament on SL crisis



  • Indian finance assistance for Sri Lanka in the current year amounts to US $ 3.8 billion

Indian External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar will address an all party meeting of the Indian Parliament today on the Sri Lankan situation, Daily Mirror learns. Indian Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will also join the discussion with him.   

 India has been a key stakeholder of assistance to Sri Lanka during the crisis time. Indian finance assistance for Sri Lanka in the current year amounts to US $ 3.8 billion. That has been in the form of currency swaps, deferment of repayment of liabilities to the Reserve Bank of India under the Asian Clearing Union mechanism and credit assistance.  Referring to the crisis in Sri Lanka, India called for the resolution of the political issues through democratic means and established institutions.   

The Sri Lankan Parliament will elect the new president to serve the remainder of the current presidential term that fell vacant after the resignation of Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
