Former President Maithripala Sirisena said yesterday he would resign from his Parliamentary seat, if allegations are proved that he is living in a residence annexing three residences.

He told Parliament that Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage had claimed in Parliament that Maithripala Sirisena was living in a residence annexing together three similar residences.

“I completely reject this allegation. It is completely false. I am living in the residence of  then President D.B. Wijetunge. He had built it by annexing two summit flats. Later on, then Minister Keheliya Rambukwela had annexed another building to the existing one to hold press conferences. I was never involved in annexing the three residences as claimed,” he said.   He said if anyone proved that he got it renovated by resorting to such an act, he would resign as an MP.
