• The Mayor surrendered to the Mount Lavinia Police last morning

Moratuwa Mayor Samanlal Fernando was remanded till June 11 by Moratuwa Magistrate’s Court yesterday in connection with allegedly threatening a female doctor and obstructing duties of officials.    

Police Spokesman DIG Ajith Rohana said the Mayor was arrested after he surrendered to the Mount Lavinia Police last morning.   The Police launched an investigation into the incident where a female doctor who was overseeing Sinopharm vaccines to the people in Moratuwa and Moratumulla Grama Niladhari Divisions was threatened.   It is reported that a heated exchange of words had taken place between the two after the doctor refused to vaccinate people according to the numerical order given by the Mayor.  

 DIG Rohana said that investigations were launched into a complaint lodged by the doctor with the Mount Lavinia Police.
