Amidst severe Doctor shortage Anuradhapura Hospitals face closure



  • 25 medical specialists and 30 doctors of Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital and 30 doctors in other hospitals in the district had left the country

Several hospitals in the Anuradhapura District have been on the verge of closure due to the dearth of doctors, much to the anxiety of the Government Medical Officer’s Association Deputy Secretary of the GMOA Dr. Ajantha Rajakaruna said. 
Anuradhapura Base Hospital and Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital were facing a shortage of medical specialists. He pointed out that 25 medical specialists and 30 doctors of Anuradhapura Teaching Hospital and 30 doctors in other hospitals in the district had left the country. 

“Meanwhile, more doctors are planning to leave the country, This is a matter of serious concern, and it would result in the closure of hospitals in the district. The GMOA has made a continual representation in this regard and moved eight proposals but to no avail,” Dr. Rajakaruna further said.
