Warning that another Easter Sunday type bomb attack could take place prior to the next Presidential election in 2024, Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Niroshan Perera said those who engineered the attack in 2019 should be arrested.   . 

 “All who were behind the Easter Sunday attack in 2019 should be arrested as soon as possible if there are any who are on the loose. They could create another mayhem targeting the 2024 Presidential election if they are allowed to move freely.   

“It is true that Zahran who led the suicide attacks in 2019 was an extremist. The issue was that a certain group got him and his team to expedite the attack before the Presidential election,” he said referring to remarks made by State Minister of Defence Pramitha Bandara Tennakoon in Parliament that the attacks on April 21, 2019 was carried by Zahran and the team in retaliation for various anti-Islamic acts which had taken place in Sri Lanka prior to April 21.   

He refuted the claim made by the government MPs that the two day debate on Channel 4 allegations on Easter Sunday attacks was a wastage of resources. “The demand for a debate is a part of our party’s exercise to agitate for the truth behind the Easter Sunday mayhem,” he said in this regard. He also said that they are not satisfied with the outcome of the debate.
