Another death caused by the heat wave experienced at present in several areas of the country was reported yesterday from Madiyawa in Eppawala in the Anuradhapura District.

The deceased U.B. Dissanayake (83) was a paddy cultivator.  Eppawala Inquirer Into Sudden Deaths M.P.S. Jayawickrema said the postmortem report indicated that the death was due to a heart failure, but he thinks that exposing to the intense heat would have been the cause of the heart failure.

“Two similar deaths were reported recently from the area. In my opinion the death that occurred today is the third. The farmer had worked in the paddy field in the morning and died in the afternoon at about 1.30 p.m. The skin of the body had developed blisters caused by the intense heat.

Dr. Mrs. H.N. Dissanayake performed the postmortem examination while Inquirer Into Sudden Deaths M.P.S. Jayawickrema held the inquest, and depending on the postmortem report and police evidence, returned the verdict of sudden death due to heart failure caused by intense heat.
