Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa yesterday called for the appointment of a Parliamentary select committee to probe the Sri Lankans whose names have been included in the list of persons who had held secret wealth as per the Pandora papers.

Making a special statement, Mr. Premadasa said a powerful select committee should be appointed to deal with the matter.

“Disclosing of prominent Sri Lankans as those who have defaulted on tax, depositing black money and secret transactions is something very serious. Sri Lanka is still to announce any move to carry out a probe on these persons. It is sad to note that the Sri Lankan government carrying out a lethargic approach on the issue,” Mr. Premadasa said.

He noted that neighbouring nations such as India and Pakistan had already announced that investigations will be carried out on their persons whose names have been disclosed.

“Those who can keep silence about Pandora papers disclosures are ones who have supported those illegal transactions,” he also said.
