Attempt to kill wild elephant Suspect arrested for laying spiked planks in jungle track

An individual who laid spiked planks in a jungle track to kill a wild elephant was arrested by Karuwalagaswewa range wildlife conservators.    

The suspect was the watcher in a cultivated land belonging to a doctor in the 17 km post area in Karuwalagaswewa. Investigations revealed that the jumbo had destroyed a papaw cultivation and that the suspect had laid spiked planks to kill it.   


Range Wildlife Conservator B. Ramasisnghe said if the jumbo trod on the spiked planks the sharp nails would have pierced into the foot causing infection and death after suffering for weeks. He said legal action would be taken against the suspect.
