Following the requests of the University Vice Chancellors, attention of the Education Ministry was drawn to provide COVID-19 vaccine to all students, including university academic and non-academic staff, Education Minister Prof. G. L. Peiris said.  

 He said this gave an indication that the universities would be opened soon.

The universities will reopen soon after the vaccination programme  was completed, according to the Minister and based on the recommendations of the Medical Officers. 

 
The request was made following a discussion held at the Ministry with the Vice Chancellors regarding the progress of the online study programme of the universities in the face of the current COVID- 19 epidemic and other administrative matters.  

Accordingly, a lengthy discussion was held on how to conduct future examinations in a hygienic environment and current problems of the online education system in operation for university students.

• The universities will reopen soon after the vaccination programme  was  completed, according to the Minister and based on the recommendations of  the Medical Officers.
