The Government and the Health Ministry have paid due attention to breaking the logjam of the grievances of the Health Trade Unions (TUs), Deputy Director General of Health Services Dr. Hemantha Herath said yesterday.

A strike action was launched by the Health Service Trade Union Collective in about 1,000 Government Hospitals from 7 a.m. to 12.00 noon last morning.

Addressing a news briefing held at the Health Promotion Bureau, Dr. Herath said they would neither expect nor want the trade union to continue the TU action further, making an adverse impact on the prevailing COVID situation in the country.

“I would like to recall the previous trade union action launched by health workers in July which made the then COVID situation to go from bad to worse, ” he pointed out.
