Automated Border Control to be established at BIA



  • The basic facilities required for this ABC was provided by the Immigration and Emigration Department

An agreement was signed to establish an Automated Border Control (ABC) system at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) to provide an efficient service to passengers.   The agreement was signed between the Airport and Aviation Services (Sri Lanka) (Private) Limited (AASL) and the BIA.    

The basic facilities required for this ABC was provided by the Immigration and Emigration Department. The project is funded as per order given by the Cabinet.   


 In the initial stage of this project, two Automated Immigration and Emigration Gates (eGates) will be set up at the departure terminal and another two eGates are planned to be set up at the arrival terminal within eight months.   
The eGate system will be jointly implemented by the AASL and the Immigration and Immigration Department and will be handed over to the Immigration and Emigration Department after completion.
