BIA to get New CCTV Camera Control Center: Minister

By Darshana Sanjeewa Balasuriya

Public Security Minister Tiran Alles has instructed to set up a new CCTV camera control center at the Katunayake Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA).  The minister said that this camera system will be able to analyze data using new technical software.

The Minister expressed this while participating in an observation tour of the BIA yesterday.  According to sources within the Ministry, the new control center will integrate the CCTV system with databases of wanted criminals or known offenders.

This will enable real-time comparison and alert law enforcement authorities when a person of interest is detected on camera.

The Ministry also stated that the new system will be an upgrade to the existing CCTV system. During his visit, Minister Alles inspected the immigration officers’ counters at the passenger arrival and departure terminals.

Discussions were held regarding plans to provide efficient and effective service to air passengers, as well as immigration services, in line with international airport standards.
The establishment of new e-gate counters was also brought to the attention of the Minister during the visit.

The observation tour was attended by Airport and Aviation Services Limited (AASL) Chairman Major General (Retd.) G.A. Chandrasiri, Public Security Ministry Secretary Viani Gunathilaka, Immigration and Emigration Controller General Harsha Ilukpitiya, and airport officials.
