The Bangladesh High Commission is making arrangements to commemorate the International Mother Language Day on February 21 in collaboration with the Sri Lankan government and other Sri Lankan partners.
The High Commission has been commemorating the International Mother Language Day (IMLD) in Colombo as a signature public event since 2015, a statement from the High Commission said.
“Every passing year, the scale, scope, participation, outreach of the observance as well as interest about it have been growing. In the year 2022 also, the High Commission is planning to observe the day reaching out to the wider Sri Lankan audience and projecting the spirit of pluralism, inclusion, multi-lingualism and multi-culturalism. Children and youth of diverse linguistic heritage and ethnicities would be an integral part of the observance to stimulate their creative ideas and thoughts about mother tongue and universality of languages.
Given Sri Lanka’s endeavours to promote multilingualism and multi-culturalism with a view to fostering greater mutual trust, understanding and respect among communities, the High Commission, like previous years, wishes to partner with the Ministry of Education of Sri Lanka and bring together some relevant Sri Lankan partners and interested diplomatic missions to observe the day.
The theme would be ‘Mother-Mother Language-Motherland’.
