Claiming that people who stage isolated protests without being led by any organisation or groups should be on alert of others who would join such protests, the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) said yesterday they would not try to claim the ownership of such public protests for political gains.
JVP said in a statement that the public also had a right to protest against the crisis situation just as organised groups.
“We are aware of the fact that the country has faced a crisis situation. The society is heading towards more crisis in every moment. Everyone in the society is being hit due to this. In such a situation, political parties and civil organisations are organising protests against this.
“Similarly, the public also has a right to protest. However, we request people to be on alert and careful of others who would join these protests without organisers and no one to take responsibility,” the statement added.
The statement further said that the JVP stressed that they would not try to claim the ownership of such protests for petty gains.
