Bishop’s House in Galle The Bishop and eight priests tested positive for COVID-19

Bishop of Galle Raymond Wickramasinghe and eight other priests in the bishop’s house Galle have been tested COVID-19 positive, MOH office Galle said yesterday.   

The Bishop and the priests have already been taken to a COVID-19 treatment centre at a hotel in Hikkaduwa while others have been sent to a centre in Unawatuna.  


It was reported that two staff members of the Bishop’s house have also been tested positive.  


Meanwhile a special statement issued by Bishop Wickramasinghe confirmed that the Bishop’s House together with the Cathedral were isolated. “We don’t know when this pandemic will end but we will have to live with it,” he said in his statement. The services carried out by the health workers, members of security forces, grama niladaries and the workers attached to the municipal council are commendable,” he said.  


The Bishops’ house and the cathedral have been isolated since June 17, 2021.
