Body of woman recovered from canal bank

A body of a woman lying on the banks of the Bellanwila lake by Katuele Road in Boralesgamuwa was recovered by the Boralesgamuwa police yesterday.  The dead was identified as G.M.Monika, a 62 year old woman who is a resident of Werahera. 

The Police had initiated investigations on information from a trader running a stall on the pavement by Katuela canal. During investigations the police recovered her dresses from the shrubs a little distance away from the body and identified her from a complaint made to the police regarding the loss of her identity card. The police informed her relatives to confirm her identity.  Nugegoda Actg. Magistrate Thissa Wijeratne visited the scene and held the preliminary magisterial inquiry ordered police to refer the body to the JMO Colombo South teaching hospital and to hand over the body to the relatives after the postmortem examination.  


Police said the circumstance that led to the death was yet to be established but the possibility of a foul play had not been ruled out.   


A police team under OIC Crime Investigation Branch IP Rajaratnam is conducting further investigations on the instructions of OIC Boralesgamuwa police CI Sumedha Wimalagunaratne and SP Rohan Pushpakumara.
