Vaccination with booster doses will be made a mandatory requirement for people to access public places, Health Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said.

During a meeting held at the Health Ministry yesterday, Minister Rambukwella said a new vaccine card with a QR code and a vaccination app would be introduced soon.

It means three doses of COVID vaccine will be made compulsory for people when entering public places,” he added.

Minister Rambukwella also said plans are afoot to turn all the local government authorities in the country into vaccination centres to expedite booster rollout.

“The officials concerned have been instructed to add more vaccine centres to administer boosters to the eligible persons,” he said.

“So far, 28% of the total population has received their booster dose . We hope to bring that percentage to a greater level before the end of this month,” the Minister added.
