Boyfriend forces young girl sitting A/L exam to drink acid



The father of the girl who was with her at the time and the suspect had also received burn injuries

A schoolgirl sitting for the GCE Advanced level Examination at an examination centre in Kegalle town was hospitalised with burn injuries when a young man waylaid her and forced her to drink acid.   


The father of the girl who was with her at the time and the suspect had also received burn injuries in the incident.   
The injured girl, her father and the young man were admitted to Kegalle General Hospital.   


Investigations revealed that the schoolgirl was on her way to the examination centre in her father’s trishaw when the young man, allegedly, her lover riding on a motorcycle obstructed their way, held the girl by the neck and attempted to make her drink 
the acid.   


The 21-year-old girl was a resident of Udumagama in Kegalle and the young man is from 
Kegalle town.   


The girl’s mother told police that her daughter had been in love with the young man and that the parents of the two parties had consented to it, but he had repeatedly warned the girl not to pursue further studies.   


She stated that the daughter who could not tolerate his undue interference had decided to give up her relations with him.   
A police team under HQI Kegalle, CI Nalaka Magedaragama is conducting further investigations.
