Burglary at Vietnam Embassy official’s house: Court issues open warrant on suspect



  • Suspect charged with stealing over Rs 1 million

The Colombo Chief Magistrate yesterday issued an open warrant for the arrest of the main suspect allegedly involved in stealing over Rs 1 million from a house in Ward Place, Colombo, where the Administrative Officer of the Vietnam Embassy resides.  

The suspect, Mohammed Niyas Mohamed Rikas, a resident of Deans Road in Maradana has been charged for committing this offence. However, the suspect was not present in court when the matter was taken up before Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis. The Chief Magistrate issued an open warrant against this suspect as he is evading court while the case is pending. The suspect had broken into the house on June 26, 2023, at around 3:30 a.m. and stole money.
