The Court of Appeal yesterday issued a writ order quashing the operation of summons issued by Colombo Fort Magistrate on Western Province Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon.
On January 26, the Colombo Fort Magistrate’s Court had issued summons on Deshabandu Tennakoon to appear before Court as an accused over a criminal accusation that he had allegedly aided and abetted to commit criminal breach of trust with regard to Rs. 17.8 million recovered by protesters inside the President’s House on 9th July.
Meanwhile, the Court of Appeal further issued a writ order quashing the communication issued by Attorney General to the Inspector General of Police to name Deshabandu Tennakoon as a suspect for abetting in commission of offences punishable under sections 314, 316, 343 and 300 of the Penal Code in connection with his alleged failure to prevent attacks on protesters at Galle Face on May 9, 2022.
Court of Appeal two-judge-bench comprising Justices Nissanka Bandula Karunaratne and M.A.R. Marikkar delivered this judgement in respect of a writ petition filed by Senior DIG Deshabandu Tennakoon.
