A test carried out by the Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has revealed that the new premium hybrid 18-litre gas cylinder introduced by the Litro Gas Lanka Ltd contains the same chemical properties of the old cylinder whereas the Company claimed that the newly-introduced cylinder was more efficient, CAA Executive Director Thushan Jayawardane said.
He said the Company had informed the CAA earlier that the old cylinder weighing 12.5 kg had contained 80% Butane and 20% Propene. The company he said had claimed the new cylinder was changed to 50 or 60% Butane and 40 or 50% Propene.
He said, however, a test carried out by the Moratuwa University has revealed that the new cylinder also contained the same chemical properties as in the old cylinder.
Mr Jayawardane said the Company had misled the consumers by publishing advertisements and added that legal action would be taken against the Company for deceiving the consumers.
He said an email had been sent seeking the CAA Chairman to institute legal action against Litro Gas.
“A copy of the letter had been sent the Attorney General as well,” he said.
He said it was deemed that legal action was delayed due to political influence.
He also said that the Company was given ample time to rectify the mistakes committed by it and added that the Company had failed to rectify any of those.
